Cupping for Manual Therapists

Meet Your Instructor - Laura Krieger, LMT

I graduated from high school, skipped college and went straight into the work field. For 33 years I had one meaningless job after another.  Having suffered from chronic migraines since I was a teenager made work life difficult. About 11 years ago , a voice in my head repeatedly said to me, ‘ Laura, look into massage!.  So, I did. I researched several schools, visited a few of them, and chose a school that best fit my needs. I learned techniques that I could use to help myself when I felt a migraine coming on, as well as my clients. 10 years ago, I graduated from massage school, became my own boss and started building my practice.

A few years ago, I attended a massage conference in San Diego. I was having a migraine that day and felt pretty nauseated. A cupping company was there and one of my colleagues suggested I give it a try. I had my back worked on. I remember thinking ‘this is cool!’.  Afterwards, I felt so much better, I bought a set to practice with at home. I was having so much fun with them I wanted to know more.

The Cupping Revolution hosted a class in San Diego in 2017, and I jumped at the chance to enroll. I’m so happy with that decision because it was so much better than I thought.  I learned so much during that two days. I was also having some back pain that weekend. It felt like I had a rib out and I just could not get comfortable. Lisa worked on me with the silicone cups. She placed a couple of them stationary around my scapula and ran another one along my back. She did a little ROM work with my arm and when she was done…the pain was gone, and I could breathe and move freely. I was hooked from then on.

Now I use them all the time in my practice and my clients always ask me, ‘can we do that cuppy thing again.’  Cupping is fun, cupping is easy on your body, and that’s why I want to share my experience with other like minded MT’s to help you ‘pop’ your practice!
